NATIONAL LEPROSY DAY

Leprosy Awareness Day, also known as World Leprosy Day, is held annually on the last Sunday of January globally, with India observing it on January 30th (Martyrs’ Day), to raise awareness, combat stigma, and promote early diagnosis and treatment for leprosy (Hansen’s disease). Initiated by Raoul Follereau in 1954, the day honors Mahatma Gandhi’s work with leprosy patients and educates communities that the disease is curable with antibiotics, encouraging compassion and inclusion for those affected.
